OK, let me get in on the debate and speculation. 2015 through 2017 will see some pretty big updates to the Walt Disney World Resort. There are things we know about, like the additional theater to Soarin, the new track for Toy Story, the transformation of Downtown Disney to Disney Springs, the new Frozen ride at Epcot, the new hub at the Magic Kingdom, the new nighttime water show and Avatar land in Animal Kingdom.
Well, if that is not enough, there is all the speculations of additional changes. One of the biggest revolves around Hollywood Studios. Over the last month, we watched the removal of the park icon, the sorcerers hat. That was taken down with mixed emotions among fans. I am probably correct in guessing that it had something to do with Disney’s deal with Turner Classic Movies and them sponsoring The Great Movie Ride. I would think that TCM would want more advertising by having their ride front and center. Makes sense.
The big question revolves around the talk that Indiana Jones will eventually shut down. Rumors were that this should have already happened. The American Idol Experience is closed, and with Sounds Dangerously no more, that leaves nothing of any consequence from Star Tours all the way to the hub.
This added to Bob Iger’s slip about the upcoming name change to the park and the fact that it won’t be called Rogue One, leads me to believe we might be looking at Star Wars land coming soon. I, for one, will be extremely happy to hear that news.
With D23 coming up this August in Anaheim. I am going to make an educated guess that they will make the announcement at the event.
