Well, all the speculation is finally over. What we all thought was going to happen is finally what’s happening. Frozen is on it’s way to Epcot! I’m not really surprised by fan’s reactions as Disney addicts like us tend to be very sentimental when it comes to changes. I must say that I fall into the sentimental category (just ask my wife who hates that I keep everything that has a memory attached!). The Maelstrom is closing forever and I am sorry to see it go but I don’t think I ever rode it enough to be that attached. I know! Don’t throw stones! Hey, I bought the special edition Maelstrom t-shirt from the Disney Store online. It’s not that I want it to leave. Trust me, I’d rather see another ride added but new is better than nothing.
The Maelstrom was a cool ride but you have to admit that the movie at the end was a waste of space. I think I will be OK as long as the end result is better than The Little Mermaid in the Magic Kingdom. Mermaid could have been so much better. I am not blaspheming here. The technology is great in a few places but as a whole it was a Nemo like ride from Epcot. OK, OK, I’ll save this rant for another article. Sorry for the bunny trail!
The only thing I am afraid of is that Disney, who was way, way, late to the show in marketing Frozen merchandise and characters, will have already milked Frozen fans so hard and for so long that we will be sick of “Let it Go, Let it Go…” If you just sang that part you are a true addict! I myself was big into the movie for the first 6 months or so since it was released but I have to say it is wearing thin. I have not been in a rush to get to Hollywood Studios to see the Frozen shows, events or characters and I don’t think I will go out of my way to make sure I see it all when I do get there in a few weeks.
SOOOO, what’s the verdict? I’m torn. Torn between two lovers attractions. I want new but I enjoyed the Maelstrom. If Disney knocks the ride out of the park I will definitely love it regardless of the fact I’m no longer “Frozened.” In closing, I guess it seems that since I will not be chaining myself to the ride or starting petitions to save it, that I am ultimately OK with it. Now, don’t judge! 🙂
